On December the 3rd I will launch the Second Edition of Leaders are Made Not Born. I have been encouraged to do this by readers who want to know a little bit more about emotional intelligence as well as more about coaching and mentoring. In addition, over the past few years, I have grown to want to make a difference in people’s lives. I started that view when teaching my first MBA class on ethics. I asked the students why they were in the MBA program. As you might imagine, they all said something like “it will allow me to get the next promotion,” or “I’ll make more money.” That made me think a bit, and then I turned to them and asked, “Don’t you want to make a difference? In your lives as well as others?” They all looked at each other, then began nodding their heads. As the instructor I took my advantage one more step and said, “We are here to learn about and discuss business ethics, but in a larger sense we are talking about understanding a valuable portion of the leadership skills you will need to be a great leader. After that, my mantra has been to make a difference. As you can see on the revised cover, I intend for the book to make a difference. The same for the smaller book I recently wrote called Quick Tips for Leaders.
